Abstract in Nature: Improvise with Colour Workshop with Instructor Janet Read

Abstract is a departure from reality in the depiction of a recognizable subject. It doesn’t relate to anything external or try to “look like” something. Instead the colour and form is the subject. Nature is a rich vehicle with which to explore abstraction.  This workshop focuses on hitting the right emotional notes, using colour, line, and texture. Janet explores the power of colour as a bearer of meaning and visual beauty. She helps you to understand and develop abstract concepts and abstract composition to paint vibrant abstract art and come away with a significantly greater level of confidence. Medium used for this workshop will be acrylic paints, coloured inks, oil pastels, chalk pastels and markers. This workshop is suitable for beginners who have some colour mixing knowledge.

This workshop takes place:Saturday, April 11 10:30 am to 3:30 pm   Please bring your lunchCost $60.00   OAS members $50.00

A Study in Scarlet
Taking its cue from Arthur Conan Doyle’s novel of the same name, this exhibition links together artworks along one common thread: the colour red. While seemingly straightforward, the exhibition exposes the various shades one single colour can assume, and unravels its meaning as it travels through time and space.
